Roma is experiencing complications when appointing a new sports director

A story that is very similar to previous situations: Roma is once again dealing with complications in the appointment of a new sports director. For the third year in a row, the search for a successor for the position appears to be anything but easy. Looking back over the past few years, it was February 2024 when Tiago Pinto left the club board, resulting in a void that could not be filled for months. Florent Ghisolfi was only appointed on May 22, but his adventure in the capital lasted only a season. On June 18, 2025, it was announced that the collaboration was ended early, a decision that surprised many people, especially in the early days of the new period under coach Gasperini. In the meantime, Frederic Massara was appointed, who had to get the financial affairs in order within two weeks, including the required plus values ​​for UEFA, while also preparing the summer transfer market.


And now? The start of Tony D'Amico's adventure also seems to be accompanied by obstacles and delays. First there was the complex negotiation of his departure from Atalanta, which took more time than expected. In addition, Series A regulations may further delay its full operation. The official confirmation of his appointment has now become a puzzle: it could come at any time, but it is also possible that everything will be postponed again. According to current regulations, D'Amico must wait until the end of the season before he can formally start at Roma, unless a special exception is made. If D'Amico can only start after July 1, Roma will find itself in a strange situation: the club must generate approximately 50 million euros in plus values ​​before June 30 without a sports director. All this is not in the hands of D'Amico, who is eager to meet Gasperini again and start this new chapter of his career as soon as possible.
