Chelsea are targeting two top signings; Barco approaching, Quenda and Emegha joining

Chelsea are working on an ambitious summer transfer window with at least two major reinforcements and possibly a third. In any case, the London club is focusing on a center defender and a versatile attacker who can be used in multiple positions.

In addition to those two priorities, an additional signing is expected in the form of Valentin Barco, who should come via partner club Strasbourg. The Argentinian has mainly played central midfield in recent seasons, but previously played as a left back at Boca Juniors and Brighton. That flexibility could prove valuable as Chelsea have accepted a deal worth up to £51.8m for Marc Cucurella's move to Real Madrid.


There are also three other additions to take into account. Goalkeeper Mike Penders is expected to join the selection after his loan period. Winger Geovany Quenda joins from Sporting, after an agreement concluded more than a year ago. Striker Emmanuel Emegha already reached an agreement on a move to Chelsea in September.

How the selection is balanced with outgoing transfers is still a matter of decision-making. The new coach Xabi Alonso will assess his players in the preparation and make decisions on both incoming and outgoing deals. Chelsea will play fewer games next season after finishing tenth in the Premier League and missing out on European football.

Quenda, now 19, completed part of his recovery from a metatarsal injury at Chelsea last season and plans to return early from holiday to start the preparation fit. After a disappointing Taca de Portugal final with Sporting against the small Torreense, he scored twice for Portugal Under 21. The wing attacker is currently training individually, following a nutrition program and has now improved his English to a good level, to make the step to the Premier League smooth.
