Wiegman will miss the World Cup with England for the time being, but these countries are already certain


Sarina Wiegman failed to qualify directly for the 2027 World Cup in Brazil with England. Although the European champion won 3-0 against Ukraine, Spain ultimately saw Spain become group leader based on mutual results. Wiegman won five of the six qualifying matches with England. Yet it was not enough for direct placement. Spain also won twice against Ukraine and Iceland and had a better mutual result (4-0 win and 1-0 defeat) than the English. Germany was already assured of first place in Group 4 and therefore a World Cup ticket. On Tuesday, in addition to Spain, France and Denmark, two new World Cup participants were added. France eventually won against Ireland and thus remained narrowly ahead of the Dutch team in the group. Arjan Veurink's team, like many other countries, has been sentenced to the play-offs. The draw for the play-offs will be on Thursday, June 18.
