Why NOS broadcasts commercials during drinking breaks
FIFA has introduced drinking breaks during matches, which gives NOS the opportunity to insert short commercial breaks, something they still have to get used to.

FIFA has decided that there will be a drinks break halfway through each match. During the opening match between Mexico and South Africa, it was noticeable that NOS took advantage of that moment by inserting a short commercial break. 'We are still looking at how exactly we will deal with this, but it will be something new: a quick one-minute commercial break. Viewers will probably have to get used to it," Xander van der Wulp, editor-in-chief of NOS Sport, previously told VI. 'We ourselves also have to get used to it. This feels strange and difficult for us as a public broadcaster, because we are not originally focused on commerce. But at the same time we operate in a commercial market with very expensive rights.' And so a necessity is turned into a virtue. 'In this way we also 'earn' something back from that money, so that it does not all have to come from the taxpayer, but there are also companies that help pay. And it gives us a little more time for analysis during halftime,' says Van der Wulp.
