Derek McInnes appointed new manager of Rangers following the departure of Danny Rohl
Derek McInnes has been appointed as Rangers' new head coach after Danny Rohl left the club for an adventure at RB Salzburg. McInnes comes from Hearts and signs for three years, with the aim of living up to the high expectations of the Rangers supporters.
Rangers have officially announced that Derek McInnes will start immediately as their new head coach. The former Hearts manager succeeds Danny Rohl, who recently signed a contract with Austrian RB Salzburg. McInnes, who played 34 times for Rangers as a player, signed a three-year contract with the Glasgow club.
The 54-year-old Scot was recently close to his first Scottish national title as coach of Hearts, but just missed out on the last matchday. During his presentation, McInnes emphasized the special nature of his appointment: "It is a great honor to take on this role at Rangers. I was a supporter of this club as a child and I believe this is the right time to take on this challenge. The expectations here are always high and rightly so. It is up to me, my staff and the players to meet them and bring Rangers back to the desired level."
In addition to McInnes, Alan Archibald, Paul Sheerin and Craig Clark also make the switch as assistants. McInnes is now the club's third permanent manager in the past year, following previous appointments of Russell Martin and Danny Rohl. The trainer will be tasked with leading Rangers to the league title for the first time since the championship under Steven Gerrard in 2020-21.
Chairman Andrew Cavenagh was pleased: "With Derek we are bringing in a true expert of Scottish football and Rangers. His success at Hearts and his deep bond with the club make him the right man for the job. We are confident that he can lead this club to success again."
McInnes will also follow Lawrence Shankland, who also left Hearts for Rangers, in the summer.
