Lawyer after 7-1 against Germany: 'No shame, they were simply too strong'
The national coach of Curaçao emphasizes after the 7-1 against Germany that the difference in strength is enormous and that qualifying for the World Cup is an achievement in itself.
Dick Advocaat tried to limit the damage mentally after Curaçao's heavy 7-1 defeat against Germany. In his reflection, the national coach pointed out the enormous difference in quality and called on his players and country to recognize the reality. “There is no reason to be ashamed, there is no shame against a team like this,” Advocaat said. "This selection is worth about 850 million euros and ours is worth about 25 million. They were simply too strong. Moreover, we gave away a few easy goals ourselves."
Curaçao still leveled the match (1-1), but then had to watch as Germany pressed on and further increased the score. For Advocaat the conclusion was clear: the result is painful, but explainable given the difference in strength and the mistakes on the Curaçao side. "7-1 is of course a tough result. We have to make sure that no one gets discouraged by this, but I am not overly concerned."

The 77-year-old national coach emphasized the bigger picture: the historic qualification for the world tournament. “What we have done to qualify is already incredible. We have to realize that,” he continued. “We just have to try to play a good tournament. And even if we don't manage to pull off a stunt in the coming matches, we are still happy to be participating in the biggest event in the world.”
With this message, Advocaat wants to quickly look ahead again. Curaçao will face opponents of the highest level at the 2026 World Cup and will need every minute to grow in the tournament rhythm. According to the experienced trainer, the starting point remains realistic: play compactly, limit mistakes and take advantage of the moments that arise - with the realization that participation in itself is a milestone for the island team.
