Strong Orange beats Sweden 5-1 at the 2026 World Cup thanks to Brobbey and Gakpo
The Dutch team made their debut in Group F of the 2026 World Cup by beating Sweden 5-1. Brian Brobbey and Cody Gakpo each scored two goals. Crysencio Summerville scored the fifth Dutch goal. Thanks to this victory, the Dutch team is at the top of the group and qualification for the knockout phase is within reach.
The Dutch national team recorded a resounding 5-1 victory against Sweden at the 2026 World Cup in the United States. After the 2-2 draw against Japan, Ronald Koeman's team was dominant right from the start. Brian Brobbey, who was in the starting line-up for the first time during this World Cup, scored the first two goals.
Brobbey was accurate after five minutes after an attack via Tijjani Reijnders and Cody Gakpo. The Ajax striker tapped the ball in from close range. Less than fifteen minutes later, Brobbey made his second (and therefore a 'brace'), after good preparatory work by Denzel Dumfries. According to Opta statistics, Brobbey thus delivered the fourth-fastest brace at a World Cup since 1986 (16:12) and thus wrote a piece of history.

Thanks to the early lead, the Netherlands hardly encountered any problems. Before halftime, the Dutch team also achieved a nice milestone: the country scored its hundredth World Cup goal and thus joins the illustrious list of top countries such as Brazil, Germany, Argentina, France, Italy, Spain and England, although the Netherlands is the only one from that list to have never won the tournament.
Immediately after halftime, the Netherlands decided the game definitively. Substitute Summerville gave a pass to Dumfries, who in turn reached Gakpo: 3-0. Gakpo managed to find the net again seven minutes later for the 4-0. Sweden then managed to give something back through Anthony Elanga (former Manchester United), but Sweden did not enjoy it for long because at the end Summerville again provided the final score: 5-1.
The victory puts the Netherlands at the top of Group F after two games. The Dutch team is now one point ahead of Sweden. Japan is currently third and will play against Tunisia later in the evening. In the last group match, the Netherlands will face Tunisia in Kansas City on Thursday; Sweden meets Japan in Dallas. Both matches start at 7:00 PM (Dutch time).
