Real Madrid remains active in the transfer market: Mourinho wants another defender

Real Madrid is active in the transfer market and is looking for new defenders and a creative midfielder, with several names in the running.

Real Madrid is particularly active in the transfer market this summer. The club is undergoing a major restructuring of the defense and after the arrival of Marc Cucurella, the hunger for reinforcements does not seem to have been satisfied. Various foreign media report that there are even more central defenders on the Royal's wish list.

On Tuesday, Real Madrid announced that Antonio Rüdiger has extended his contract for a year in the Spanish capital. With the arrival of Cucurella, a new left back has already been brought to the Santiago Bernabéu, but they are also busy with the acquisitions Denzel Dumfries and Ibrahima Konaté. It seems only a matter of time until these players are officially presented at Real.

Despite the appointment of José Mourinho as the new coach, the defense is not yet in order, according to the Portuguese coach. Foreign media report that a central defender needs to be brought in in addition to Konaté. Names such as Josko Gvardiol (Manchester City) and Riccardo Calafiori (Arsenal) were mentioned, but these transfers seem difficult to achieve. Therefore, other options are being considered, including Nico Schlotterbeck (Borussia Dortmund), Rúben Dias (Manchester City) and Alessandro Bastoni (Inter).

Bastoni has been linked with a transfer for some time, while Schlotterbeck recently extended his contract with Borussia Dortmund. However, the German is said to have a buyout clause of 50 million euros in his contract.

Furthermore, The Athletic reports that Real Madrid is also looking for a creative midfielder. Names such as Enzo Fernández (Chelsea) and Mateus Fernandes (West Ham United) are mentioned, as is Kees Smit. Agent Jorge Mendes plays a crucial role in these negotiations, as he represents Mourinho's interests and may help with the transfer of the young midfielder.

To make room for these new players, Eduardo Camavinga, Raúl Asencio, Ferland Mendy, Fran García and Dani Ceballos could leave. The latter is associated with a switch to Ajax.
