Ivory Coast without Elye Wahi against Germany due to Canadian entry ban
Elye Wahi is missing for Ivory Coast against Germany due to an entry ban for Canada. The striker, the subject of a French investigation into possible match fixing, did play in the opening victory over Ecuador and is expected to return for the final group match in the US.
Ivory Coast will have to make do without Elye Wahi on Saturday in Toronto, in the second group match at the 2026 World Cup. The 23-year-old striker has not been given permission to enter Canada and can therefore not be used against Germany.
Wahi was interrogated in France earlier this month in an investigation into possible match fixing. The case revolves around a yellow card he received on May 17 during OGC Nice – FC Metz. According to The Athletic, an unusually high number of bets were placed on a card for the Ivorian, prompting the French Football Federation's anti-corruption unit to launch an investigation. Wahi has not yet been charged and was therefore given the green light to travel to the World Cup with Ivory Coast.

Because Ivory Coast's opening match against Ecuador (1-0) was played in the United States, Wahi was able to take action. However, the meeting with Germany takes place in Canada, where he is not admitted. The attacker therefore remains in the United States. His return seems possible for the final group match against Curaçao, as that match will again be played on American soil.
The match between Germany and Ivory Coast is immediately a battle for the top position in Group E. Both teams are on three points after their strong start: Germany crushed Curaçao 7-1, while Ivory Coast was too strong for Ecuador 1-0.
