During the 2026 World Cup, FIFA president Gianni Infantino will not settle for rest. As previously in Qatar, where he attended all matches, the Swiss president has committed to attending at least two matches on each match day. This is evident from research by The Guardian.
To carry out this ambitious mission, Infantino will use a private jet from Qatar Airways, made available under the sponsorship agreement with FIFA. With the tournament spread across four different time zones and stadiums hundreds to thousands of miles apart, efficient travel is essential.
Since the start of the tournament, Infantino has already been present at the opening match in Mexico City (Mexico-South Africa), followed by a flight to Guadalajara for South Korea-Czech Republic. The next day he was spotted again in Los Angeles at United States-Paraguay. On Saturday he attended both Qatar-Switzerland (San Francisco) and Australia-Turkey (Vancouver). On Sunday, the FIFA boss skipped a day due to a summit in Miami, but he was back soon after, with a presence at Iran-New Zealand on the night.
Infantino's travel schedule not only underlines his involvement in the tournament, but above all shows how sophisticated the tournament organization and logistics of the 2026 World Cup are: for international sports bosses and for the supporters who want to travel. The use of a private jet is less a luxury than a necessity this edition - going from stadium to stadium every day without a flying start is simply impossible with the expanded World Cup schedule.
