Dortmund pauses talks about Matías Soulé: Roma maintains price of around €40 million

Roma wants to make a big sale before incoming transfers. Soulé is open to leaving, while Manu Koné prefers to be retained. Dortmund is a possible destination, but is holding off on an asking price of around €40 million.

Roma faces a crucial transfer summer. Before the club can attract new players, it must first make a major sale to comply with Financial Fair Play rules and balance the budget.

The names that most appeal to the imagination are Matías Soulé and Manu Koné. Both players represent potential capital gains needed to attract incoming deals, but internally sporting preferences differ. Koné in particular would like to keep the technical staff, while Soulé's position is more open to a sale.

According to La Gazzetta dello Sport, Roma have set a target price of around €40 million for Soulé. That amount represents a clear threshold for interested clubs. Borussia Dortmund is one of the most likely, but at the same time most uncertain options: the Germans are interested, but pause the talks as long as the asking price is so high.

Dortmund is known for a cautious and sustainable investment policy and rarely exceeds certain expenditure limits. Exceptions in recent history include the purchases of Dembélé for €35 million and Haller for €31 million. That philosophy, focused on talent development and financial solidity, makes an expensive deal for Soulé less likely.

For Roma, the outgoing transfer of a top player remains the key to creating space for incoming reinforcements. As long as the price tag for Soulé remains around €40 million, Dortmund seems hesitant and the outcome is uncertain.
